June brings exciting whale watch trips to Dolphin Fleet!
June has brought great whale sightings with many humpbacks, finbacks as well minke whales off the coast of Provincetown. Over the last week we have seen well over 2 dozen humpback whales as well as a few mother calf pairs feeding just off the beaches of the Cape Cod National Seashore. Other activities such as breaching and close boat approaches have been common with the humpbacks we have been seeing. Over 1 dozen finback whales have been seen working the edges of the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary. Finbacks are the second largest marine mammal on earth. The finback whales have also been seen feeding on the surface on the smaller fish. Over 2 dozen minke whales have been spotted over the past week working the area as well. It’s been great to see so many of the whales return back to the sanctuary. Be sure to visit the new pages of our site about research and education to see what’s new to our program.
