Meet Irene Briga

Since 1979 Irene has worked in various capacities on whale research and marine turtle studies including: small research boat operator; data collector; visual and acoustic observer; videographer; and photographer. She has conducted plankton bongo net tows, VHF radio tracking and aerial survey observations. Irene has worked on several large research vessels studying humpback, North Atlantic right, minke, beaked and sperm whales.

Irene was a videographer on the Dolphin Fleet for 5 seasons for the Whale Video Company and during 2005, a naturalist for the Provincetown Center for coastal Studies. She has worked as an endangered species/ marine mammal observer for the National Marine Fisheries Service, the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and The Institute of marine research, Norway. Irene’s video footage has been used on major television networks, Animal Planet and on National Geographic.
